1. We own
our theatre.
We do not have to rent venues, such as village
halls, etc. nor do we have to set up lights,
sound and sets at the last minute before opening
night. We have the facility and ability to
provide solidly constructed and realistic sets,
providing a professional backdrop to all our
productions.
2. We are a Supper Theatre,
with Bar
The theatre has a licensed bar and we provide a
limited seating area for diners before a show.
This offers the audience the opportunity to relax
and enjoy good food before the main event of the
evening. This pre-show dinner provides a bistro
atmosphere and is enjoyed to the full by staff
and eaters alike. Diners may bring their own
beverages and we are licensed and so non-diners
may enjoy a drink.
3. We have a flexible
auditorium/stage.
We are not encumbered by a proscenium arch and
curtains. We have a moveable thrust area that
brings the performers into the audience. This
provides a "theatre in the round"
effect, with audiences enjoying the performers
from three sides. The theatre is very intimate
with a maximum capacity of 66 seats.
4. Organisation.
We have a very strong committee system which
ensures that long-term and short-term plans are
carried out in the best interests of the theatre
and its members. Committee members are elected
every year from the participating club membership.
We pride ourselves on the high standard of
productions and our efforts to maintain that
standard. The feedback we get from our audience
confirms our decisions and influences our future
planning.
We offer the opportunity for actors/actresses
from other local theatre clubs to perform at The
Barn. This strengthens our performances and helps
everyone develop, rather than stagnate.
5. Productions
Our choice of
production is very important to us and we feel we
have provided a very balanced programme over the
years. This has, once again, been confirmed by
our audience. We try to provide one major musical
production a year, at least two comedies, one
drama and something that provides humour and
interest, or originality.
